3X your chances of getting interviews

60 to 90 seconds.

That’s how long your resume will be reviewed for by consulting firms.

Your resume is the most important part of the consulting recruiting process. It is what makes the difference between getting multiple interviews and zero interviews.

Unfortunately, writing the perfect consulting resume is hard, especially if you are writing it by yourself.

Writing a resume takes a lot of self-reflection, time, and effort. It can lead to unwanted stress, anxiety, and frustration.

Only 5-10% of resumes will receive consulting interviews. This figure is even lower at top-tier firms such as McKinsey, BCG, and Bain.

However, I’m going to share with you how to 3x your chances of landing interviews.

Even if you don’t decide to work with me on your resume, the three resume secrets I’m about to share are going to help you land 1-2 additional interviews.

So read on.

Why listen to me?

I’m Taylor Warfield.

I’m a former Bain Manager, interviewer, and recruiter that has screened thousands of consulting resumes over eight years.

I’m extremely passionate about helping people land their dream consulting job. I’m the author of the #2 best-selling case interview book on Amazon last year.

I know exactly how resumes are evaluated, what resume readers are looking for, and what works versus doesn’t.

Here are some of those secrets.

Secret #1: Numbers are your best friend

Which resume bullet is better?

  • Analyzed customer data and worked with data scientists to make strategic recommendations to improve customer satisfaction

  • Led a five-person team to analyze 400K+ customer data points, identifying three initiatives to improve customer retention by 30% and increase annual revenue by $14M

The second bullet is much better!

Using numbers makes the resume bullet more specific, more credible, and more impressive sounding. Unfortunately, most people fail to use enough numbers in their resume.

Failing to quantify accomplishments and impact is a huge mistake. Every single resume bullet needs to have numbers.

Secret #2: The fifth-grader test

Imagine being an English reader and receiving a resume written in Arabic.

Would you understand that person’s accomplishments? Probably not.

This might be a bit exaggerated, but most people forget that resume readers haven’t worked the same jobs or had the same experiences as them.

Many resumes include obscure acronyms, technical jargon, and unfamiliar proper nouns. Resume readers will have no clue what these are without further explanation.

But, there’s a simple solution for this.

I call it the fifth-grader test.

A fifth grader should be able to read your resume and understand everything. Using this test will help keep your resume simple, clear, and easy to understand.

Secret #3: Resume hacks to save space

Your resume should fit on one page unless you have close to 20 years of work experience.

Most people make their resume fit by shrinking the font size, making page margins tiny, and combining multiple bullets into one.

Don’t do this.

This will make your resume ugly and hard to read. Instead, focus on making your resume more concise.

For example:

  • Cut your “Education” section in half. This is the part that resume readers spend the least amount of time on

  • List your less impressive extracurricular activities on one line under “Education” or “Additional Information”

  • Shorten your bullets so that you don’t have a few words that run onto the next line. We call these extra lines orphans or widows

These are some of the right ways to make your resume one page.

Why pay to get your resume reviewed?

You may be thinking: why do I even need to pay for a resume editing service? Couldn’t I work on my resume on my own?

Unfortunately, 90% of you will still write a sub-par consulting resume even if I gave you all the resume tips I have.

Let me explain.

First, you are not a professional resume writer.

You may be good at climbing the corporate ladder, mixing chemicals in a lab, or playing tennis, but you probably haven’t done much resume writing in your life.

Writing for school or work is completely different than writing a consulting resume.

Second, you think that you know what resume readers are looking for, but you don’t.

To develop this intuition, you need to hear consultants discussing and debating which resumes deserve interviews.

Third, writing the perfect consulting resume takes time.

You probably have a lot going on. There's school, work, social activities, family obligations, chores, and errands. You may think that you are spending enough time on your resume, but you probably aren’t.

All of this makes people overconfident in their resume-writing abilities. But don’t worry...

...here's how you're going to avoid this trap.

No more stressing out about your resume

I’ll transform your resume into one that will give you the best chance of landing consulting interviews.

Here’s how it works.

First, you’ll send me your resume in a Word document format.

Immediately, I’ll convert your resume into a format that resume readers prefer. We’ll use the right margin sizes, fonts, font sizes, section headers, and formatting.

Next, I’ll read through every line of your resume, providing detailed feedback and suggestions to improve it. We'll cover what bullets to add, delete, combine, shorten, and expand upon.

I’ll ensure each bullet is impactful, balances quantitative and qualitative skills, remains concise, and is easy to read.

We’ll iterate on this several times, continuing to make your bullets better and better.

For the last iteration, I’ll make direct edits to put the last finishing touches.

How much will this cost?

You may be thinking: this all sounds great, but how much will this cost?

Transforming a resume takes a lot of time. I personally work on every resume from start to finish. I provide personalized feedback that is tailored to each person’s background and experiences.

For these reasons, I charge $399 for my resume services.

I’ll be honest, this is not cheap. Asking friends, colleagues, or mentors for help is free.

However, you are not going to get the best results unless you have an actual consultant review your resume.

Even if you have someone in consulting that can help you for free, consultants are busy people. They may not thoroughly review your resume or provide detailed feedback.

Your money is important, so here are three key benefits of choosing to work with me.

First, I offer unlimited revisions on your resume. We will work on your resume until it is perfect.

Second, I offer 24-hour turnaround times between revisions. Turnaround times may be even faster depending on availability. This is perfect for those with tight deadlines.

Third, I will provide you with the best customer service. You’ll have direct access to me to get any questions or concerns answered.
